Happy Sunday, everyone.

Today's post is all about a special card I made for my husband's godmother's 90th birthday next Sunday. This summer I had some extra time and spent most of it creating this project.

I decided to see what happened the year Aunt Fran was born (1924) and then put it in a keepsake card. Well, the card came out more like a book! LOL!
I used the Cricut Mini Books cartridge as a guide and blew it up! There's nothing mini about this project, let me tell you! Each page is 6.5" h x 7.25" w. The cover and the pages for the inside are all scalable, which meant I had the chance to use my 12" x 24" mats! Of course, it's hard to find cardstock that long, but Michael's has a small inventory of colors that are as long as 27", so it all worked out.

The flap folds into a small notch on the cover

and then instead of having the belly band and its notches show on the front, I thought I'd turn it around, put the notches on the back and put the year on the band:
The events I decided to include were The Roaring 20s, Calvin Coolidge (President at the time), the 1st Winter Olympic Games, discovery of King Tut's tomb, patent of the ice cream cone, formation of Mercedes-Benz (her son is a big car buff), premiere of "Rhapsody in Blue" and publication of the song, "Happy Birthday to You."

Some of the pages had vellum overlays, like the flappers' page above.

Of course, the moist important event that year was Aunt Fran's birthday, so I had to include that! LOL!

And, finally, I put my stamp on the back (thanks, Sheri!) to make it official!
Would love to hear your thoughts! Thanks for coming by and reading!

Take care, Alice

August update

Still working on trying to get things posted to this blog.

This time I want to remind everyone that my online Close to My Heart gathering will be closing out on August 5th, so if you want to order some great papercrafting items, please take a look at all the goodies to be found in the catalog and online. Here's a link to the gathering page: Alice's CTMH Homepage

If you miss the gathering, you can always order directly from my site. Plus, I will open a new gathering later in August. But, since this is my first order, I'd love to have a good showing for this gathering. Thanks in advance.

Also, I thought I'd share some photos of items I've been working on this summer.

This is a card I made for a housewarming party. The house is actually a holder and the brown roof comes out to display the message.

This one is my husband's birthday card. He really likes the movie UP, so I colored a house and
created some balloons. It's also my first easel card.

This last one is a thank you card for friends who had us over to celebrate our getting married (about eight months late, but it's the thought that counts and we were so happy they wanted to celebrate). I'd been practicing making swing cards and this was one of my better attempts

Well, that's it for now. Please leave your comments and thanks for visiting! -- Alice
